And so exam week begins. Crunch time. I had an absolutely fantastic time at the Dragon’s Maze pre-release. Me and a couple good friends played Magic at our local game store from midnight Friday to 7 in the morning, and I gleefully collapsed into my bed when I got home. I didn’t do well in the tournament event, but I got some goodies for my current Commander deck and other important cards to finish a new one I’ve been constructing. All in all, it was a successful night that I will remember. I have more fun MTG stuff planned for the next weekend as well, as there’s going to be a geek convention hosted right here on my university campus with awesome nerd festivities to partake in.
Unfortunately, these two events are sandwiching finals week, which is going to demand a different kind of focus from me. And stress, there’s that too. Two physics finals, an out-of-class research essay accompanying an in-class humanities exam, and a web design project are going to be at the forefront of my consciousness until I have ’em done and go home free next Tuesday. Thankfully, I am an optimistic individual, so I know I can keep my sanity intact for the next few days.
As far as summer vacation is concerned, well, damn. Three and a half months of no schoolwork. Less schoolwork is less stress which is great, but the lack of such is also going to leave a void for me to fill. Unfortunately, I’m without a car and my home is high up in the mountains, where commute demands automobile transportation. Therefore, I don’t really have opportunity for steady summer employment. That means I’m probably going to be spending most of my vacation playing video games and working on a personal Maya project to hone my 3D modeling skills in the comfort of my far-off-the-beaten-path home. I’ll also help out at my mother’s small business for extra cash as well. I can’t get steady employment of my own but I can at least ride with mom to the store. Yeah, no car sucks.
Still, I’m looking forward for this semester to be done with and the freedom of summer while I can still enjoy it. May this finals week be a good one, and be mostly painless.
