It’s been officially summer for two days now and I’m already pretty weary of it. I hate to be a negative nancy but there are two things about this season that really take a piss in my cereal: One, the sun, and two, mosquitos. Allow me to elaborate about the sun. The sun is a wonderful, life-giving orb of wonders in the sky, however, it is also a big ball of nuclear fire. That fire is good in that it gives us heat and light, but it’s also a potentially significant annoyance to me. I don’t tan in the sun, I burn. For some reason, I sunburn easily. Those ultraviolet rays are a fearful thing, and they make me rather stay inside an air-conditioned building than deal with heavy sunblock in the summer heat.
Now onto the mosquitos. Mosquitos love me. Any length of time spent out on my porch will usually result in a heavy mosquito assault on my being. I always seem to be the only one who gets the full brunt of this, everyone else usually emerges relatively unscathed. Dad says they like me so much in particular because of our family heritage of nutritionally-rich blood, go figure. Anyway, mosquitos are just another reason as to why I prefer to stay in air-conditioned buildings, away from the summer pests. Another annoying summer insect that I didn’t mention is the Cicada. They haven’t emerged yet, but when they do they’ll make a cacophonous chorus of nocturnal noise. They don’t help me get to sleep, I’ll tell you that much. But at least they don’t attack me like the sun and mosquitos do.
One other small tertiary thing that bothers me about summer is the drought of new video games. Since publishers release the heavy majority of blockbuster titles right before the holiday season to ensure the most dosh on Christmas, there really isn’t much, if anything left to release in the summer. It’s unlike movies in that regard, since the big-budget films are made to be released in the summer for when people are on vacation and have more free time to visit the theater. It grinds my gears though because I don’t have much to look forward to in the summer months, it’d be nice for the Wii-U to release in July, or for Assassin’s Creed 3 to come out at the end of June. Sigh.
